All in a Day 04:06
The cop pulls up To where he’s stopped and all He’s had a few too many With a friend named Paul It’s been another year Of loss and gain But he’ll be doing fine If he can just stay sane It’s been many years Since the rebel yell And she sits alone In a cozy cell She might have been a star Might have made it to the top But then she lost a kid And then she crossed a cop (chorus) Hey, Hey It’s all in a day Hey, hey, hey It’s all in a day Well there’s a Pizza Hut And an Exxon sign Give skeptics proof Of a clear design Down deadend Joe’s Time is moving fast It’s the damndest thing How the fun don’t last Just a tiny tear In the fabric there And all the sounds fall through And fill the air Just the hazy strains Of old refrains It’s just a slip Have a pleasant trip (chorus)

We wear the mask that grins and lies, It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes, This debt we pay to human guile; With torn and bleeding hearts we smile, And mouth with myriad subtleties. Why should the world be over-wise, In counting all our tears and sighs? Nay, let them only see us, while We wear the mask. We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries To thee from tortured souls arise. We sing, but oh the clay is vile Beneath our feet, and long the mile; But let the world dream otherwise, We wear the mask!

Witness Tree 04:02
these fields were once a forest tall trees far and wide along came a man ax in his hand he cut those tall trees down tall trees grew by the river clear water tasted like wine til government planned upriver dam sucked that river dry we’re climbing, climbing climbing up the witness tree we’re climbing, climbing climbing up the witness tree these fields were fertile farmland for barley corn and rye til corporate brand poisoned the land left those fields to die these streets ran through the city city built on a field angry band with fire in hand burned that city down sweet dreams to all you sinners sweat dreams of humble pie nothing you try, none of your lies will leave those deeds undone

this is the way we see the world in line and color in space this is the way we hear the world in sound and silence in time raven-haired girl in a long pink dress crawling across the brown field grass toward the tracks that might lead home through the unmowed mass before the barn crooked-legged man playing guitar his skin and clothes are threadbare blue old woman below, child by her side hidden from view under the oil woman and man, his brother’s wife embracing forever, laid bare to harm in blackened bronze or marble white their lips apart behind her arm this is the way we fake the world through perceptions of like and dislike this is the way we make the world through expressions born of our mind

Driving me wild Singing them lonely lines Honey, run like the fire Make it home to me tonight Face the congregation Singing in the choir Your heart’s in the fire And you come home late at night Try to find salvation But it’s taking a bit of time Love won’t keep you honest Doin like your doing tonight Woman and the Devil Put them side by side Love don’t know the difference Their both an angel dressed in white Driving me wild Singing them lonely lines Honey, run like the fire Make it home to me tonight Face the congregation Singing in the choir Your heart’s in the fire And you come home late at night

No Law 03:57
Somebody caught me Some cop in Reno Somebody caught me and I’ve been let free, yeah I wasn’t stalking I was just talking From sun up to sun down thinking of her We were once lovers I knew her only I was whole when she when she gave herself to me An ocean of passion It flowed between us A union so strong it could not be broken She still loves me I know this to be true Mistakes were made but they can be corrected too (she made some too) She mustn’t hide from me It only serves to anger me I don’t wish to frighten her She’s the only one I’ve ever loved In her new life I can tell she isn’t happy If I had the chance I could bring back her sunshine One single look of longing Will be my signal One hundred years of hope still left within me Somebody catch me I’ve fallen for her A wave of light washes over me When I’m running In the land of dreams I’ll run faster and she’s chasing after me She still loves me I know this to be true Mistakes were made but they can be corrected too (she made some too) She musn’t hide from me It only serves to anger me I don’t wish to frighten her She’s the only one I’ve ever loved

Flood of '55 05:45
on August 19, 1955 the ol’ Mad River rolled up over the banks where Housatonic and Naugatuck collide bridges and bodies washed out to the sea and the rain, rain kept comin and the rain, rain kept comin Hurricane Connie brought a half foot of water to New England sent it running south from the hills to the valleys downstream five days later came a Hurricane named Diane another foot of water lit a hunt for the higher ground and the rain, rain kept comin and the rain, rain kept comin heroes in the Waterbury streets and the roads of Winsted doing everything they could to help a woman or a child survive but it happened too quick, the rivers were running too high they could only make it home to the arms of their worried wives and the rain, rain kept comin and the rain, rain kept comin love was made in the flood and the rain, rain kept comin I was made in the flood of ‘55 and the rain, rain kept comin
